In this guide, we’ll break down the best places to stay in Ninh Binh with kids, explain which area suits different family travel styles, and share family‑friendly accommodation tips to help you choose confidently.
Is Ninh Binh a Good Place to Stay With Kids?
Yes — Ninh Binh is very family‑friendly, especially for families who enjoy nature, slower travel, and open spaces. Unlike busy cities, the pace here is calm, and many accommodations are small hotels, eco‑lodges, or homestays with gardens and pools.
That said, location matters more than luxury in Ninh Binh. Staying too far from attractions or in the wrong area can mean long travel times and tired kids.
Best Areas to Stay in Ninh Binh With Kids
1. Tam Coc – Best Overall Area for Families
Tam Coc is the most popular base for families, and for good reason. It’s walkable, scenic, and close to many of Ninh Binh’s main attractions. Tam Coc offers the widest range of family‑friendly hotels and homestays. Look for properties with pools, larger rooms, and bike rentals.
Why families love Tam Coc:
- Flat roads for biking with kids
- Many small hotels and homestays with pools and gardens
- Easy access to restaurants and cafes
- Close to boat rides and nature spots

Tam Coc works especially well for families with toddlers and younger kids, since you won’t need to spend long hours commuting between activities.
Best for: First‑time visitors, families with young kids, slow travel
2. Trang An Area – Best for Nature‑Loving Families
The Trang An area is quieter and more spread out than Tam Coc. It’s closer to the famous Trang An boat ride and ideal for families who prefer peaceful surroundings. If you’re visiting Trang An early in the morning, staying nearby can make the experience much smoother with kids.
Why choose Trang An with kids:
- Less crowded and more tranquil
- Beautiful countryside views
- Close to Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex

The trade‑off is convenience — there are fewer restaurants and shops, and you’ll likely need transport to get around.
Best for: Families with older kids, nature lovers, quieter stays.
Where we stayed and the review:
We had a wonderful time at Trang An Luxury Homestay in the Trang An area! We stayed for three nights, arriving late at night from Cat Ba Island by bus. (You can check our Cat Ba Island trip here ).
We were picked up in a van from the bus stop, along with a few other travelers heading to the same spot.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we crossed a charming little bridge lit with lights, and the homestay was beautifully illuminated with multiple lights, complete with karts in the background. There are bikes available for rent, and a lovely pool with changing colors is located in the center of the property. The homestay was a peaceful retreat, making us feel right at home.
After checking in, we enjoyed some delicious food and then retired for the night. The room was cozy, featuring two queen beds and a spacious bathroom with a large bathtub and a wet shower area.
The lobby/dining area is a great spot to relax and play pool, and breakfast is included with the menu.
The homestay was convenient, and the host was incredibly kind. However, it’s a bit of a trek from the city center, and there aren’t many nightlife spots or markets if that’s what you’re hoping for.
The following day, we rented some bikes from the homestay for a small fee and set off to the Trang An boat area. We also arranged transportation to our next destination and a taxi for the entire day to explore the local attractions, all through the homestay host.
Get your bus or train tickets in advance. We missed out on overnight train tickets to Danang because we weren’t sure whether to Danang or Phong Nga next. The trains are popular and sell out quickly. They only confirm tickets within 72 hours, even after payment. We paid more for the bus and risked not getting the train tickets.
Avoid the hassle of paying for trains, getting delayed confirmations, and dealing with refunds by booking in advance if you can.

We paid ~ $45/night for a family of four. Price subject to change over time and season, and may not reflect the same price at the time of your booking.

3. Ninh Binh City – Best for Budget & Convenience
Ninh Binh City is often overlooked, but it can work for families on a tighter budget or for those staying short-term and/or arriving late by train.
Pros:
- More budget hotels
- Close to the train station
- Local food options
Cons:
- Further from the main attractions
- Less scenic
- More city noise
Best for: One‑night stays, budget travel, late arrivals

What to Look for in Family‑Friendly Accommodation
When choosing where to stay in Ninh Binh with kids, prioritize:
- Location over luxury – closer saves energy
- Outdoor space – gardens, pools, or open areas
- Family rooms or extra beds
- Quiet surroundings for early bedtimes
Many smaller hotels and homestays in Ninh Binh are very accommodating to families and happy to help with bikes, transport, or meal timing.
Our Recommendation: Where Should Families Stay?
- Traveling with toddlers or younger kids? → Tam Coc
- Older kids who enjoy nature and quiet? → Trang An area
- Budget or one‑night stay? → Ninh Binh City
If you’re unsure, Tam Coc is the safest and most flexible choice for most families.
